Clean Up and Make Money
For many of us, spring-cleaning means decluttering and organizing our home, which usually only happens during this time of the year. However, spring-cleaning can also be much more than that.
When our homes are rid of the extra stuff, we can have a sense of calm in our household. Less clutter makes for easier rooms to clean, as well as less stress about having to keep so much stuff organized.
If you’re tired of seeing stuff everywhere you walk inside your home, now might be time to take action—and the following tips may help.
First, you want to start by decluttering your home. Do not even worry about the organizing until the decluttering is done. Get rid of things that are no longer helpful to you or your loved ones and are just getting in the way.
When you declutter, go room by room. Instead of trying to conquer all the rooms in one day, take a room a day—or even one room a week to help you get focused on really decluttering the room.
Second, make a place in your garage where you can put things into four piles:
- Donate
- Throw out
- Save
- Sell
If the item hasn’t been used in months, it’s time to put it into a box in the proper category. Remember, to help use this process to make money, you need to sell the things that have monetary value even though they no longer hold value in your home, such as strollers, bikes, clothing, kitchen tools and other items that are still in good condition.
Finally, host a yard sale. Make and post signs at least one week in advance to ensure the community knows when and where you will be hosting the yard sale. (Be sure you’re following your community’s guidelines when posting signs.)
