Friends and Finances

“Can I borrow money? I promise I will pay you back!” How many times have we all heard this phrase? And every time one of our friends asks for money, we all wonder: Do friends and finances really mix?

The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly

We all want to be generous with our friends. So when times get hard for one of them, it is only natural to want to help out. Unfortunately, in the end, this could end up costing you more than money. A friendship can also end if the situation between friends and money is handled incorrectly.

Some of your friends may not make as much as you, and that is ok. You work hard for your money. But that doesn’t mean you have to financially suffer because you do not make as much.

Instead of having to pay the difference for friends on a tighter budget, do things you all can do together that don’t cost a lot of money instead.

For example, don’t meet for high-priced weekend movies, when you can rent a flick and make some homemade popcorn.

Or forget expensive tickets to the art show, and make your own art with a piece of paper, markers, etc.

Instead of attending a pricey pro ball game, go to the local high school team’s games, or better yet, meet in the park and throw the ball around together!

No matter what the situation might be, there is a proper way to handle your money—and your friendships!
