Oh, yes. It’s hard to believe, but we’re almost at the start of another school year. But don’t start covering your eyes and ears now!

Our team at Cleveland Bradley County Teachers Federal Credit Union wants to help you look at this new school year with excitement, even though you might be saying goodbye to another summer. A new school year brings about new possibilities—and anything is possible.

Who doesn’t want to start the year off on the right foot? Let’s take a look at some ways you can be sure to begin the new year strong!

Create a Back-to-School Strategy

It can be easy to get overwhelmed with all the preparations you need to complete before the first day of school. However, before you get to the point where you want to pull your hair out, start making a to-do list of everything you need to accomplish.

Then, divide the list out into smaller sections so that each day you have a smaller list to complete so that you are able to get everything done without feeling extremely overwhelmed.

For instance, maybe one day focus on getting all the supplies you need for your classroom. Then, the next day, you can begin working on creating your classroom rules and/or welcome packets for your new students. By taking it one step at a time, you won’t feel as stressed.

Open the Door for Communication

It is important to get the parents as involved in the school year as the students. Think of creative ways you can communicate with parents and other guardians this year so that they will know what is going on in the classroom. Think outside the newsletter box. Maybe a private Facebook group is the way to go?

By opening the door for communication with parents in the beginning, it will make it easier when things come up during the school year.

Set Up Your Classroom

Finally, you want to make sure you have the classroom furniture arranged the way you want it before the first day of school. While some teachers might prefer the traditional rows of desks, other teachers might like to put the desks in groups.

Also, create sections within your classroom so that there are designated areas when students have a break. For instance, in one corner of your classroom you might have your library, while in another area you have STEM activities the students can explore.
