Are You Prepared for a Disaster?

Along with sunny, dry days also come strong thunderstorms and tornadoes during the summer. Should a disaster hit, will your finances will be the next to follow? Or can your finance withstand these storms?

Disaster-Proof Your Finances

Sometimes it is not “if,” but “when” a disaster hits. Either way, get ahead of the storm by checking these items off your to-do list.

Make It Automatic. Unfortunately, it may be a disaster to you, but bill collectors will not care, even if we think they should. By making your paychecks automatically deposit into your bank account and putting major bills – such as mortgage, car, electric, etc. – on autopay, you can ensure that everyone receives their money on time, preventing you from paying any additional money in overdraft and late fees.

Picture Perfect. Should a disaster occur, insurance companies are going to want a list of items in the home that were destroyed that you are trying to get covered. The last thing you want to do is to try and remember everything. Go ahead now and take pictures of every room in your home. Then, put the pictures in a safety deposit box. This way, all you have to do is take out the pictures and send them in to the insurance company.

Get Covered. Call your insurance company and check your policy to see what you are covered for in terms of natural disasters.

With a little preparation, you can rest easily knowing that you and your family are prepared should a disaster hit.
