A Grocery Bill You Can Get On Board With!

When the gas prices went up a couple of years ago, the cost of groceries inevitably went up, as well. However, even though the gas prices have now made their way back down, it seems the cost of groceries is still staying at higher ground—if not even higher than that! Fortunately, there are ways to cut down on your grocery bill even if the cost of groceries is still high.

You Don’t Have to Clip Coupons

One of the first things you want to do is to find the magic store. One week, try one grocery store, such as Publix or Food City, and maybe the next week take your list and try Walmart. You may be surprised at who ends up being lower on the overall cost of items. Now note that the magic store may not be the same for everyone. It depends on what your grocery list mostly consists of and the prices the store rates the items at that helps make the winning combination.

You also want to stock up where you can. Is your brand of toilet paper or paper towels on sale this week? Take advantage! You know these items will eventually be used anyway, so you might as well buy them when the cost is at a low! Most sales occur on a six-week cycle, so get at least enough to last that long.

In addition, do not get too stuck on brand names. While sometimes it does make a difference, other times the generic brand works just as well as the supposed name brand item. Many times the generic brand is cheaper than the brand name, too. So if it is just as good, you might as well buy the item at the lowest price possible in order to get the most for your money when you grocery shop.

Just remember, the more you save on your grocery bill, the more savings you can have in your emergency fund!
